About Us

Put simply, we are a social club.  OlyMEGA stands for Olympia Makers, Engineers, Geeks, and Artists. Our members share a love of creating, talking about creating, sharing knowledge, and collaborating. They are experts in all sorts of things such as:

                • 3D printing
                • Laser cutting
                • Computer controlled cutting (CNC)
                • Machine embroidery
                • Chemistry
                • Robotics

                • Engineering
                • Silk Screening
                • Computer programing
                • Digital security
                • Wood working
                • Physical security and locks
                • Ham radio operation
                • and much more

Established in 2009, we rented our current space in 2015 as a place where we could meet regularly, store the cool tools we obtained, and build things. We are a completely volunteer 501 c3 organization. Dues go towards paying rent, operations, improving our space, and buying new tools.  The space has three floors.  The first floor focuses on Laser Cutting, CNC routers, and the equipment to support them.  It also has a large work bench for those big projects. The second floor is our meeting room but is also where we have our 3D printers, electronics bench, computer equipment, sewing machines, and electronic cutting machines. We are working on preparing out third floor for general use. One room is being prepared for silk screening and painting. We are also working on a larger wood working shop there.

Classes on using our more challenging tools are scheduled as needed. For example, if you want to learn how to use the laser cutter, let a board member know and we will schedule one and invite everybody.

Do you have expertise you want to share? We are always looking for new topics, and techniques. If it is something short, bring it up during one of the scheduled events that fit the topics. If you have something more elaborate, discuss it with a board member (we are everywhere). We have time slots available and would love to fill them with new content!

Community interaction is also a focus. We have an ongoing relationship with the Hands-on Children's Museum where we create and repair some of their exhibits and run educational and fun activities during events. Recently we have been doing some projects with Puget Sound Estuarium. We are always open for Arts Walk. If you have an idea for a collaboration with another group, please contact us.

We encourage you to visit the space to get to know us. Come a few times to make sure we are a good fit before joining. The best time to get an introduction is  our "Open House" held every Thursday night from 7:00 - 9:00 PM. This is our night to discuss what is going on in the club. We then have our "Show and Tell" where members are encouraged to show off the projects they are working on (in or out of our space). That is followed by an opportunity for visitors to introduce themselves. Tell us about your interests, projects, expertise. Finally we break into a social meeting where members talk about whatever they want to.  While not a strict rule, we discourage talking about things like politics and religion. We are here to talk about making, technology, club business, and other things that are unique to what OlyMEGA is.

If Thursdays evenings don't work for you, or that sounds a little too intense for you, we are open most evenings except Mondays. Check our meetup page (https://www.meetup.com/olymega/https://www.meetup.com/olymega/) for a complete schedule. Some recommendations would be a Tuesday evening if you are interested in IT or security. If 3D modeling or electronics/robotics interest you, look at our Wednesday options. If you enjoy board games, or crafting, look at our Friday lineup. Saturday and Sundays are less structured, but open times on those days might also work. Again, check the Meetup page before showing up.

If our membership dues would present a hardship for you, let us know. We are most interested in having good members and can make arrangements that work within your budget.

Many of our members also have their own unique tools, just ask.
